STEP 2: Solutions

Once the biggest problems have been identified in Step 1 Stocktake, the next task is to find the best way of solving those problems. Hydrozone will investigate the many alternatives and assess which will work best on your site. Depending on your needs the criteria for evaluating options will include: water savings, cost, aesthetic values, functional performance of the site and maintenance of heritage values.

Hydrozone has knowledge and expertise in many water management strategies, technologies and products. We use this experience and our wide network of knowledgeable clients and solution providers to determine what will work and what customisation is required.

Hydrozone is independent of all service and product providers so you can trust that our recommendations are based on solid evidence rather than the inevitable sales hype.

Our broad knowledge including horticulture, irrigation, landscape design, water modelling and stormwater harvesting, mean we can mix and match and customise solutions. Data gathered during the Stocktake is vital for this task. An important example of this is our capability to optimise the size of a water storage facility to match both plant water requirements and available water supply. Hydrozone uses a number of analysis tools to acheive this, in particular, our own Daily Water Balance Model. We use this to estimate a site's water requirements & supplies under various scenarios using historical daily rainfall and evaporation data.

The solutions section of a Hydrozone Water Management Plan decribes the recommended solutions, their likely cost and the expected water savings and other benefits. Important design parameters are highlighted, along with technical or operational issues that are critical for the success of a project.

Often, we combine related solutions into packages that can be considered as a single option. These packages will require various levels of expertise, time and/or capital to implement. Informed decisions can then be made by the key stakeholders depending on the level of commitment that can be made.

Next: Step 3 Implementation
